MEI is a London-based vocalist who has overcome a lot throughout 2020, and is now dropping a brand new five-track EP. ‘See Us’ is her best single yet, wrapping a mist of soulful R&B around melodic rap to create something truly unique. Glitching electronic beats push the track into the modern era, but there are plenty MEI connects to her vast inspirations. “I wrote ‘See Us’ during the George Floyd protests last year. I felt so weary and heartbroken from all the social media posts, black squares and graphic videos circulating the internet. I had to delete my apps and take a break, so writing this song was my protest and my therapy. I hope it heals and re-energises.
